Of Human Bondage...

Posted by
Pavan Kaul (Mumbai, India) on 5 November 2012 in Documentary & Street.

“This love was a torment, and he resented bitterly the subjugation in which it held him; he was a prisoner and he longed for freedom. Sometimes he awoke in the morning and felt nothing; his soul leaped, for he thought he was free; he loved no longer; but in a little while, as he grew wide awake, the pain settled in his heart, and he knew that he was not cured yet.”
― W. Somerset Maugham, Of Human Bondage

"The male is a domestic animal which, if treated with firmness and kindness, can be trained to do most things."
~ Jilly Cooper

The scene, I don't know what thinking about it, as I don't know if what I is real or played etc ...
What is really impressive is the light in his eyes, just like he is really possessed or really mad or ... the both.
Strong image anyway.

AMH from Buenos Aires, Argentina

Pavan: once again, your photos take me to other places. a photo strong, especially the dress of the woman holding the rope of man and exprecion of his face, which is accentuated even more by being black and white and this whole scene.
On the other hand, thought it might be part of a scene in which you could be working.
I remembered when I saw an Italian film "La Strada (1954) by Federico Fellini, which always left me with the question whether the character of Giulietta Masina, was in love with Zampano (Anthony Quinn). Moreover the text reminds me the idea of Calderon de la Barca in "life Is a Dream" where he believes that reality is a dream ... Pavan. has once again made me think of the look of your photos. you are special =). hug. Alejandra
