In The Land Of Gandhi...

Posted by
Pavan Kaul (Mumbai, India) on 26 July 2012 in People & Portrait and Portfolio.

Poverty is the worst form of violence.
Mahatma Gandhi

Where justice is denied, where poverty is enforced, where ignorance prevails, and where any one class is made to feel that society is an organized conspiracy to oppress, rob and degrade them, neither persons nor property will be safe.
Frederick Douglass

It is a beautiful rural scene but I think the colors are missing here. Rice fields and costumes of your countries are so beautiful it's almost a shame not to see

I don't know if powerty is the worst but for sure is violence. Those ones, in your photo look a little bit more well off than those on the streets of Delhi or Mumbay you took few years ago. Annierita

I have a great book about tribalism the world over, and one elder shaman speaks of how the plight of one poor person shames us all. This is deeply affecting and a very powerful image, Pavan. One that commands attention, respect, and thought. Bravo.

Gandhi's words are very true ... powerful recrimination. To my shame I see these people living in these conditions when we open a faucet and let water run without thinking too much ... among many other things ... Thank you for sharing this tender and tough scene nosogtros life ... A hug dear Pavan... Adela
