Dying To Live...

Posted by
Pavan Kaul (Mumbai, India) on 23 April 2012 in Landscape & Rural and Portfolio.

“What man can you show me who places any value on his time, who reckons the worth of each day, who understands that he is
dying daily? For we are mistaken when we look forward to death; the major portion of death has already passed,
Whatever years be behind us are in death's hands.”

~Seneca

My Spotlighted Images

Annierita & Annisabelle from New Delhi & Belle Ile, India

A dark picture, in its processing, not in it's meaning, which for me speaks more about illusion than death or life. But most in life is illusion, so ... samsara, where often we forget to really live and we forget we are going to die. Annierita

What an intriguing and evocative image Pavan! Darkness and light, mysterious and dreamlike... just like life?! Great quote, as always. Somehow this and the following Confucius' words seem to be complementary:
'Chi Lu asked about serving the spirits and gods.
Confucius said,"Not able to serve the living, how is it possible to serve the spirits?"
Chi Lu ventured to ask about death.
Confucius said,"Not knowing about life, how is it possible to know about death?"'

Rick from Toronto, Canada

This image is most eloquent and works in a wonderful tandem with your chosen quote. It makes me recognize and embrace the paradox of life in a human mind, both resistant to and accepting of the finite (because our potentials are infinite, possibly)... the rich depth and darkness of your photo reminds me of the hauntingly beautiful Vancouver Island lands I have been fortunate to visit several times, and if I am to distill a linguistic meaning from the myriad feelings evoked, it is that finding and cherishing the "now" is where my own personal light and gratitude lives. Beautiful post, Pavan. You rock !

23 Apr 2012 3:45pm

@Rick: Thank you Rick! That is such a generous comment and I do hope I am deserving of it.
