The Way 8...

Posted by
Pavan Kaul (Mumbai, India) on 9 June 2011 in Animal & Insect and Portfolio.

A human being is part of the whole, called by us "Universe," a part limited in time and space. He experiences himself, his thoughts and feelings as something separated from the rest - a kind of optical delusion of his consciousness. This delusion is a kind of prison for us, restricting us to our personal desires and to affection for a few persons nearest to us. Our task must be to free ourselves from this prison by widening our circle of compassion to embrace all living creatures and the whole [of] nature in its beauty.
~Albert Einstein

DESPITE STRAIGHT LINES from United Kingdom

Representative of so many things to my eyes, Pavan. The starfish and it's trail, drifting on the ocean tides, crossing the sandy shores and rocks with nothing more than instinct and survival tactics as companions. A shooting star in the vast and spectacular universe as planets are born and stars explode to possibly create parallel dimensions where life in one form or another exists. The journey that we each take from the cradele to the grave, some journeying with blinkered eyes, never to appreciate the beauty of Little Earth whilst others see with clarity and purity, every detail along the way.

Does any creature truly understand it's worth and purpose in Mother nature's beautiful scheme of things? I believe that mankind once did, but we have lost our way and trampled down the purity of our existence and beliefs that once lived in the hearts of our ancestors, in pursuit of false dreams and greed. Does a starfish live a life more pure and simple than our own? I think it does. A lovely frame that ignites my brain cells and delights my eyes.

@DESPITE STRAIGHT LINES: A lovely comment my friend that echoes all the thoughts and feelings I wished to convey through this picture but did not have the words to do so! Thank you Paul for these words of wisdom:)

Rick from Toronto, Canada

A poetic and exquisitely simple image, Pavan. An allegory of history and future, where life has been and will be going, and much more... all neatly symbolized in this fragile textured visual. The Einstein quote is superb; too many people have condensed his genius into the mathematical side of his thinking. He was a spiritual mind, too.

Phil David Morris 2011 from Saskatoon,, Canada

A star is a Star and this one leaves a trail, much as a shooting star we would
wish upon.

A vacationing businessman was walking along a beach when he saw a young boy. Along the shore were many starfish that had been washed up by the tide and were sure to die before the tide returned. The boy was walking slowly along the shore and occasionally reached down and tossed a beached starfish back into the ocean. The businessman, hoping to teach the boy a little lesson in common sense, walked up to the boy and said, "I have been watching what you are doing, son. You have a good heart, and I know you mean well, but do you realize how many beaches there are around here and how many starfish are dying on every beach every day? Surely, such an industrious and kindhearted boy such as yourself could find something better to do with your time. Do you really think that what you are doing is going to make a difference?" The boy looked up at that man, and then he looked down at a starfish by his feet. He picked up the starfish, and as he gently tossed it back into the ocean, he said, "It makes a difference to that one."

i have never seen a starfish walk in the sand like this. mostly, they seem to sit in tide pools then they mysteriously walk up on the beach and die. i assumed they did this at night when nobody was around. you are so lucky to see one actually crawling on the beach-- i think it is an honour for you, a gift from nature.

Just love Einstein spirit & words here, so zen and soulful and open-minded, i do agree, and your image illustrates the lines perfectly, this lil' star on the sand has to remember she's also one in the cosmos, and how i love the tracks in the smoothly soft brown wet beach ! Have a super end of week, P*

This is a remarkable and tender shot. It feels that the water has just receded across the sand and the starfish has made its trail. A beautiful image. The Einstein quote fits your photo perfectly. This is food for thought and inspiration.
