The Way 5...

Posted by
Pavan Kaul (Mumbai, India) on 1 June 2011 in Landscape & Rural and Portfolio.

We need another and a wiser and perhaps a more mystical concept of animals... In a world older and more complete than ours they move finished and complete, gifted with extensions of the senses we have lost or never attained, living by voices we shall never hear. They are not brethren, they are not underlings; they are other nations, caught with ourselves in the net of life and time, fellow prisoners of the splendour and travail of the earth.
~Henry Beston

I love the incredible palette here, seems you painted Nature with your own brushes, the turquoise & the sandy hue along with the very calm presence of the King Dog work for a very serene vista. A sensuous too with the atmosphere of vacation & pause. Inviting !

Lovely symbolic image ! I liked the way the cannine tries to make sense of the parallel tracks in the sand while sitting beside the waves of the ocean and beneath a wonderful cloudscape .....!
It is tempting to think that MAY BE THE CANNINE REPRESENTS[/STANDS FOR] THE LONESOME INDIVIDUAL TRYING TO MAKE SENSE OF THE MYSTERIES OF LIFE AND NATURE.........

Lovely composition. Fantastic thought in the description here - often mankind keeps a mindset of everything it does not understand enough to be primitive or premature. They are other nations - so so true.

Your love for life, nature, humans, animals too. Could not be otherwise! Your spirituality gently envelops everything and what we teach in each of your wonderful imágenesllenas of feelings and sensations. It is a great pleasure to have you as friend in all that surrounds us ... Thanks again through this magnificent dog Dogo ... loyal animal than I can bear witness ... I've had four of this race and I can tell. I was thrilled to recognize his profile against a landscape of dreams! Maybe all four are in the spirit of this beautiful place! A hug, Adela

DESPITE STRAIGHT LINES from United Kingdom

And yet we dumbest of the apes, choosing not to learn from, respect, tolerate, listen to the animal kingdom from which we ourselves have evolved, decide to play God with fate and circumstance. We rape the land and destroy the habitat of the animals all around this beautiful planet, we cross breed dogs solely for the purpose of earning money as they rip the flesh from other species in organised street fights, we use them as a symbol of our manhood and manace, we displace and make extinct what get's in our way as we spread like a plague.

Your photograph today is sublime. Glorious composition and detail, a perfect point of view for the shot. The noble creature set against Mother natures wonder and spectacle, loyal and obedient to a race that does not deserve it's love and affection. The vehicle tracks heading off into the distance sadly also remind me of another of mankinds favoured tactics in abandoning their domestic dogs and cats on beaches, by motorways, in the countryside, when they have grown too old or expensive to keep.

That feeling does not detract from a wondefully captured frame my friend, just my take on the species I so despise and the legacy of shame we leave for successive generation in terms of our cohabitation with the animal kingdom.

2 Jun 2011 4:58pm

@DESPITE STRAIGHT LINES: You are most perceptive Paul. I found this Great Dane alone, probably abandoned by his master, on this beach. I watched him for hours as he sat there in the blazing afternoon sun, sad and depressed, rooted to this spot by the tracks of the vehicle that had departed as if expecting it to return. He didn't even stir as I shot frame after frame from up close. All he did was gaze in the direction of those tracks, his master's final words echoing in his ears :"STAY!"

DESPITE STRAIGHT LINES from United Kingdom

I so hoped that was not the case here Pavan, but those paws by the tracks gave me the impression of being abandoned and knowing mankinds treatment of animals...... A great Dane, so expensive to feed, huge bills at the vets, let's just dump him, hey an animal will find a way of surviving! I could weep. I hope there is a happy outcome for this beautiful creature and that someone takes him in and loves him. I hope the owners feel proud of themselves, and that one day they get their come uppance.
