None who have always been free can understand the terrible fascinating power of the hope of freedom to those who are not free.

The words of Dalai Lama makes for me a contrast to the words in your picture. Really something to think about and take a line to. (I listened to Dalai Lama in Lund in Sweden last Saturday, always so interesting and wise.)

Even with a lot of hope in man, I'm afraid of the impossibility of this quote! Too bad! I wish you beautiful Easter with all the people you love!

Nina from Haute Loire, France

The desire for peace is in contrast with power and those who traffic in weapons, it is sometimes despairing! ... Thanks to think about it!

We no never connaitrons the real peace, regrettably, because the man is by nature belligerent and good far from being completed.

You know my feelings on peace, my friend. There will be no such thing or even the remotest possibility of peace whilst mankind walks this beautiful Earth. Religious divide and intolerance, greed and the natural destruction that this plague of which we are a part causes ceaslessly, all of our own making and ultimately they will be our demise. I firmly believe that if you put two men in a room, give it time and a fight will ensure due to alpha male syndrome and genes.

Love this urban frame which is very powerful for so many reasons. The motion of the silhouette, the grafitti and wall artwork, a D+Star Wars storm trooper with Samurai clothing that represents the ancient and the futuristic-but always MAN as the warrior. Perfect in mono, it's a shot that I wish were one f mine. Brilliantly observed and captured. The quote is of course, so true... though sometimes as the people of Iraq have come to realise, the grass is not always as green as you expect when you finally GET to the other side....... I hope you are well my friend, and have a lovely weekend.

A lone figure rushes away to war or to peace. Wonderful photograph and
superb in black and white.

Ginnie from Netherlands

While peace seems impossible in this day's world, Pavan, we still need to strive for it wherever we are. WE are responsible for peace, one day, one person at a time. Sometimes we aren't even at peace with ourselves, so maybe that's where we need to start?!

24 Apr 2011 7:16am

@Ginnie: So true Ginnie, so true:)

El pare from Prepirineu, Andorra

I'm agree with the words of Dalai Lama. The message of the photograph leads us to a spiral of violence.

a quote that I love and a picture that says enough on the bad thoughts we have when Dalaï Lama is not eared... a great picture, in B&W as the world of those who think with manicheism...

Excellent words that have transcribed here today. Much truth in them. It is true that we do not love what is not known ... How much humanity do not know even what it means to live in freedom! God willing, things will get fixed soon for them ... Thanks for highlight here, along with a very powerful image! A hug Pavan! Adela

A powerful truth post, image and quotes ideally matched. The real changes for something better always begin in the streets. We may have run out of time for our species to revert the downward slide, but only time will tell. Peace upon you, sir.

First step be on peace with one self .... war is much easier, and hope to be in peace later, very true ! I like your photo and the quotation like always. Do you know, I decided to read again the " Miserables " after your serie on the beggars in the steets ? and I enjoy it.

24 Apr 2011 3:36pm

@Annierita & Annisabelle: Thank you Annie, that was one of the books my father told me to read when I was in my teens and it remains a favorite to this day. Jean Val Jean...what a hero!!

Strange that for peace they say you have to fight and they put up photos of space
gangsta's to get their point across. Suitable graffiti for a slogan like that.

It seems though that after doing all that planning for war, we can't resist making war. It seems ti be a part of human nature. An excellent image.

An image semantically very strong. I would speak very gladly about its very beautiful composition too... but in front of such a message, any comment could seem indecent.
