Les Miserables...(8)

Posted by
Pavan Kaul (Mumbai, India) on 22 May 2010 in Documentary & Street and Portfolio.

"In all his trials he felt encouraged and sometimes even upheld by a secret force within. The soul helps the body, and at certain moments raises it. It is the only bird that sustains its cage."
- Victor Hugo

This boy walking his sibling in a pram donated by some charitable soul, lives under appalling conditions in a nearby slum. I asked him if he'd like his picture taken and he posed for me, fascinated by my camera. On being asked if he went to school he said he had no time to do that as he worked the whole day at a cycle repair shop. And what did he want to be when he grew up? He smiled shyly, then pointed at me.

A system that fails to provide the population with basics, a system that denies children the joy of childhood, a system that fails to deliver justice and equal opportunity, a system that serves only the few who serve it or run it....such a system is a crime against humanity and must be condemned!

Christel from Köln, Germany

Good evening, Pavan,
The boy actually has a little smile on his face. His eyes convey that he is glad that you spoke to him. It is still very very sad that these children must work. These children have no youth to play like other children of this world. I hope it will change soon. The boy and other children, I wish the best. The presentation is very impressive and colors, well chosen. Have a nice weekend and thanks for all your nice comments. Sincerely Christel

22 May 2010 8:54pm

@Christel: Christel, I believe that children are little of love for us... and this is not how we ought to treat something so precious! Thank you for your support:)
