The Mark Of Man (2)...

Posted by Pavan Kaul (Mumbai, India) on 24 July 2012 in Landscape & Rural and Portfolio.

Our environment, the world in which we live and work, is a mirror of our attitudes and expectations.
~Earl Nightingale

If all mankind were to disappear, the world would regenerate back to the rich state of equilibrium that existed ten thousand years ago. If insects were to vanish, the environment would collapse into chaos.
~E. O. Wilson

This is the horrifying sight that met my eyes on the banks of the beautifully picturesque river 'Sol' at Baga, Goa. It pains me no end to see that there is hardly any place left, at least in India, where the hand of man has not wreaked havoc & callous, mindless destruction. I have to say with disgust that I can no longer walk with my head held up high & look at the sky, admire the beauty of nature, breathe in the fresh air, for fear of messing my feet in somebody's poo!! Shame on those who have doomed us to live a life with eyes forever cast down !!!

A very strong message, Pavan.. You are right when you say 'mindless' destruction. Ever so often, there are instances where a little effort can make a world of a difference. And yet, most of us find it difficult to do just that extra bit. Thanks for the reminder..

Elevation of the soul very strong to the evolution of our society: there are days where I just believe that the place where I live and chose is a little slice of Eden...

Super image

Punit from Pune, India

Very strong expression, Pavan! But so very true. I'd say mankind's treatment of mother earth has been sad enough to deserve such an expression. Describes the current situation very very aptly.

And I love the quote in your description.

Don't ask me how or why, but I took one look at this and knew it was Goa, Pavan. I have only been there once but it made such an impression.

And the destruction is everywhere. We talk about New Zealand being clean and green, but even here there is a huge impact of humans on the environment.

Heart breaking and poignant, both in this image and the quotes but mostly in your words which I share. My brother and I took a long arduous hike last year on Vancouver Island, up a 1200 foot mountain and its gorgeous winding forest trails... and in the midst of all of that verdant primal beauty, suddenly a pair of discarded men's briefs and a used condom. It made me sick. Such disrespect and cavalier attitude our collective species Mind seems to have for this miracle home called Earth.

A powerful presentation. And wonderful quotes. A matter of serious concern to all of us. These should not happen. I believe that we are all responsible to bring in a better change without loosing any more time. I share the views of Rick and Skyriani. :)

So charming and calming is the scenery in the distance as created by Nature; so disgusting and saddening is the foreground as polluted by Man!

Geez this image along with your words are strong and yell aloud its message, your last sentence is so dramatically true, not being able to walk with our eyes dreaming up ! Great post, thought-provoking and we are all concerned since it begins with a Kleenex abandonned on a beach, a cigarette on the street and so on. Thanks ! And the angle is excellent !
