The Conflict...

Posted by Pavan Kaul (Mumbai, India) on 18 March 2010 in Animal & Insect and Portfolio.

"How is one to live a moral and compassionate existence when one is fully aware of the blood, the horror inherent in life, when one finds darkness not only in one's culture but within oneself?"
...Barry Lopez

As usual 400mm was not long enough to get this composition. This is about 40% crop of the full frame! The grain is quite tolerable despite the crop and ISO 3200.

SOUL AFLAME from The bosom of Mother Nature, United Kingdom

The crop works superbly here, Pavan. A nicely captured action shot and perfect in mono.

I was really tempted recently by a 150-500mm lens, but it was expensive and I asked myself how many times I would use it against the pain of lugging it about, or packing in my hand luggage to travel back to Canada. My penchant for landscapes won out, so I hope some eagles don't visit me and make me regret that decision... ha ha

18 Mar 2010 10:56am

@SOUL AFLAME: Many thanks Paul! I completely understand as I am one who would gladly spend my last penny on some great glass:) Alas, I am not free to do so!!!!

Fonts from Barcelona, Spain

A reading of a splendid chance Pavan image! Here's how a target image includes the artist's and photographer transforms it into something different! A perfect title along with the image ... one says to the other!

I would like to take to opportunity to mention to all in general, that actually the quote gives the image its meaning and brings forth the photographer's interpretation. Sadly not many seem to have the time to read:)

Seraphine from San Francisco, United States

very nice pavan. as one who has tried to photograph birds, it's not as easy as it looks. of course, i use a little pocket camera, but still. you got some good detail, and the birds tell a little story about bird life.

@Seraphine: Happy you like it Sera:)

20 Mar 2010 1:49am

John Maslowski from Dallas, PA, United States

Love how you captured the wing spread, excellent shot. Amazing how we never seem to have a long enough focal length. Just bought a 1.4x teleconverter a few months ago and of course there are trade-offs with that too. Like the crop, bird shots are very difficult and you did a great job on this one.

20 Mar 2010 1:56am

@John Maslowski: Admire your work and value your appreciation greatly John! Thank you:)

Anne from Singapore, Singapore

what a great display of the composition, Pavan. yes, it is so much about conflicts....Well done!!

20 Mar 2010 4:10am

Self-Indulgence from Chicagoland, United States

I did read it actually. I always read people's descriptions because then I have a better idea of what is going on or what they were doing. I never leave comments just to tag someone. Sometimes though I am careful about my words because I do not want to upset someone of another culture or another language that can not understand me well. Kindness can often get lost in text. :) You take lovely photos..
